DreamJob Staffing
Leading a team spread across several countries to launch a job platform
staffingdreamjob.comContext
DreamJob is a Texas-based staffing company: it recruits, screens and places people for other businesses. Their operation depended on third-party job boards and manual processes, and they wanted a platform of their own.
The problem
There were two problems at once and only one of them was technical. First: with no platform of their own, every job posting and every candidate lived in someone else's tool, with no control over the brand or the data. Second, and harder: the team meant to build it was spread across several countries, with no defined workflow, no code standards, and nobody translating what the business wanted into what had to be built.
What I did
- Market research plus a technical and commercial proposal before writing any code: what to build, with what, and why, against the alternatives that already existed
- Led a team of 6 front-end developers distributed across several countries: reviewed and merged 124 pull requests out of the 779 commits the repository closed with
- Defined the team's development and deployment workflows and quality standards — which was what was missing, not hands
- Built the product: job board with listings and companies, professional profiles, user accounts and a bilingual English-Spanish site
- Continuous communication with business stakeholders to prioritise what went into each release
- Full cycle, from concept to production
Outcome
The platform is still in production and operating today, three years after I left the project. The design has changed; the functionality we defined is the same. Still to be published: registered users and job postings published.
